APS Motion Test Study Guide
+5 points Extra Credit on the test for handing in a paper on tuesday that answers No. 1-4 below!
1. Know the definitions of the following terms:
Vector velocity speed scalar acceleration displacement
2. Know what quantity goes with the following units:
m/s m kg m/s2 km/h km/h/s km mph
3. Draw ticker tapes for the following situations:
Acceleration deceleration constant speed (fast) constant speed (slow)
4. Draw speed triangle and acceleration triangle and properly label them.
5. Be able to calculate any of the quantities in the two triangles. (Look over problems)
6. Know the difference between distance and displacement. (Look over problems calculating both)
7. From a speed vs time graph, be able to calculate the acceleration and distance at various time intervals (Look over the quiz)
8. From a distance vs time graph be able to calculate speed.
Friday there will be a pop quiz on the measurement topics learned so far:
You should be able to draw lines when given a ruler, measuring in cm, inches and mm.
Measure angles when given a protractor
Read a graduated cylinder and a thermometer
Calculate volume when given the dimensions of a rectangular solid.
Calculate the area of a rectangle.
